About Marc

Marc has been teaching popular beginner level courses in Smart School since 2013. He has worked in the illustration industry as both as an illustrator and an art director for clients including: Dark Horse Comics, GameStop, Scientific American, and SF weekly. He currentl exhibits his art regularly at galleries in New York and Los Angeles. His work has been shown in museums across the country and featured in publications including the magazines Juxtapoz, Hi-Fructose, and Beautiful Bizarre. In addition Marc cofounded Every Day Original and Drawn and Drafted, two online platforms that connect artists with art directors and collectors.

Figure Drawing boot camp

Drawing the figure is an essential skill for narrative art and illustration. We highly recommend that you start here if you are new to art, if you are self taught, or if you have not had an intensive figure drawing class before.

This class is designed to build an understanding of the draftsmanship of the human form for narrative artworks and illustration. Each student gets rigorous weekly assignments based on a combination of the traditional teaching technique 'Bargue Cours de Design' and other sources. Students receive in-depth personal feedback every week and interactive demonstrations tailored to their ability level.

We believe that we're on the right track with this method because of past student's success. Our process also builds upon the most popular way of teaching figure drawing in 19th century Europe. Vincent Van Gogh wrote eloquently about the Bargue method in his letters "...day by day it makes my hand as well as my mind more supple and strong. Those studies are excellent."

Beginning Illustration

If you've been through Basic Figure Drawing and you're ready to start your first illustration assignments or narrative art works this is the perfect class for you.   Marc provides a range of assignments based on real-life illustration jobs or following the students' narrative art interests. Students will start using their skills as they're taken through a proven process. They will create up to three complete illustrations or narrative art works. At the end of the semester each student's work will be introduced to a special artist guest.
