*The mentorship runs for 14 sessions. SmArt School teachers sometimes have to travel for professional reasons. If they must miss a class they will notify all students with as much lead time as possible and add a session to the end of the calendar. Some weeks off are also scheduled into the calendar, see the 'Courses' main page for details. ALL CLASSES MEET LIVE and are not recorded due to proprietary content. Teaching will not happen via email, only during class time.
Science Fiction & Fantasy Illustration & Book covers
If you want a "no-nonsense" "give it to me straight" consummate professional to teach you the craft and the art of Illustration, DAN DOS SANTOS is the teacher for you. Through weekly assignments and draw-overs specifically tailored toward your goals Dan brings will guide your down a rigorous path from sketch to finish. He will help you learn how to solve the constant puzzle of the illustration assignment with polish and originality. Digital and traditional media welcome.
Towards the end of the semester a special guest will review student work.

Dan Dos Santos
Dan's work spans a variety of genres, including novels, comics and film. His client list includes: Disney, Universal Studios, Boeing Aircraft, Saatchi & Saatchi, Scholastic Books, The Greenwich Workshop, Penguin, Random House, Tor, UpperDeck, Wizards of the Coast, and DC Comics. Dan has received numerous awards including: a 2010 Silver Medal from Spectrum Annual, the 2007 Jack Gaughan Award for Best Emerging Artist, and the Chesley Award for Best Paperback Cover. His illustrations have graced the #1 spot on the New York Times Best Seller list many times.
