Tex Buss began studying painting at the School of Visual Arts, New York, but got derailed by the lure of the wider world. She left school to travel, live abroad, and soak up the fascinating and often painful beauty of the universe we live in, always relying on art to hold that beauty and to give it meaning. Her craft took her into many varied directions, including an ongoing career in tattooing (she owns Red Kestrel Tattoo, San Francisco), and oil painting. Her paintings are often compellingly large format and draw you in with symbolism, narrative, and rich detail. Her characters are drawn from myth and literature, or are manifestations from her inner world, contextualized by our common stories and built on nature themes. She is based in San Francisco.
